Updated: Mar 8, 2023

On September 22, 2022, a community in Harlem, New York, held a prayer vigil to honor NYPD Captain Janelle Sanders who passed away due to a 9/11-related illness. The event was attended by members of the community as well as officers from the 32nd Precinct of the NYPD, where Captain Sanders served.

DRMI Chaplains, including Pastor Joshua J. Mercado, provided the ministry of presence during the prayer vigil. Pastor Mercado had the honor of closing the vigil with a prayer before the release of balloons in celebration of Captain Sanders' life.

The Chaplains expressed their condolences and offered prayers to the Sanders family and the NYPD 32 Pct family during this difficult time.

Captain Sanders' passing is a reminder of the continued sacrifices made by first responders and their families. Her service and dedication to the community will never be forgotten
